Triple Stripe Blanket
The enlarged graphic details mirror the proportions of the crosses on the Cross Blanket.
Consciously made from organic cotton and offered in three colorways: off white/black,
off white/redorange and green/black.
Crux Blanket – Our Icon
A true survivor! The cross symbol (crux in Latin) was rarely seen in the design world
before Pia Wallén introduced her Crux blanket in 1991. The blanket, a classic
in contemporary Swedish design history, is handicrafted in one of Scottland’s most
renowned weaving mills from 1866 and made with the finest blend of
90% lambswooland 10% cashmere. ”It’s no coincidence that I designed my first felted wool blanket,
Crux, during the Kuwait invasion in 1991. The artist Joseph Beuys was also an influence.
When I first started working with blankets, I found a small weaving company in
Östergötland in southern Sweden that still worked with the traditional techniques.
I collaborate with them for many years until I finally found their equal in a well established weaving
mill in Scotland. I’ve always been intrigued by the values that the cross represents.
In Swedish folk art tradition, the cross is a strong symbol for hope,
a meeting point of heaven and earth.” The Crux blanket is the most exclusive of our objects,
due to the handcraft production process. We are limited to meeting the demand.
So please have patience – or try our new Cross Blanket in organic cotton.
Cross Blanket
The Cross Blanket is produced in superior quality pure organic cotton
in collaboration with a Swedish company that manufactures their own organic cotton
in Peru. The cotton is grown in a completely natural way, without any use of chemicals.
It is handpicked without the use of defoliants by small scale farmers on their own
land under fair labour standards.
Mega Crux Blanket
The Mega Crux is a playful exaggeration in scale and abstraction of the cross pattern
from the original Crux Blanket which Pia Wallén designed in 1991.
The blanket is handicrafted in one of Scottland’s most renowned weaving mills from 1866
and made with the finest blend of 90% lambswool and 10% cashmere.
